FCPH Maintains National Accreditation Status

Franklin County Public Health (FCPH) is pleased to announce that we have successfully maintained our national accreditation status through the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). By maintaining our accreditation status for another five years, FCPH has demonstrated that it meets PHAB’s national standards and measures and has the capacity to improve and advance its programs and services to improve the health of our community.

In 2016, FCPH achieved its initial accreditation status through PHAB after undergoing a rigorous, multi-faceted, peer-reviewed assessment process. Today’s reaccreditation announcement goes a step further by demonstrating FCPH has the capacity to become increasingly effective at improving the health of our community.

PHAB works to advance and transform public health practice by championing performance improvement, strong infrastructure, and innovation. PHAB’s accreditation program sets standards against which the nation’s governmental public health departments can continuously improve the quality of their services and performance. Ohio is the only state in the nation to require local health departments be nationally accredited.

“Today’s announcement is the culmination of months of hard work and dedication from our staff as well as the ongoing support from the Franklin County Board of Commissioners and the cities, villages and townships we serve,” said FCPH Health Commissioner, Joe Mazzola. “Accreditation is a rigorous process that shows our commitment to quality improvement, collaboration, and equity in public health practice.

“We are so proud to again be recognized by PHAB for demonstrating our ability to meet national standards,” said FCPH Board President, Dr. Clint Koenig, MD, MA, MSPH. “We hope this announcement continues to assure our residents, community partners, and elected officials that the services we provide are responsive to the needs of the communities we serve.”

FCPH plays a critical role in protecting and improving the health of people we serve. FCPH provides a range of services aimed at promoting healthy behaviors; preventing diseases and injuries; ensuring access to safe food, water, clean air, and life-saving immunizations; and preparing for and responding to public health emergencies.
