Our Programs

PLUMBING & MEDICAL GAS

Our Plumbing Program provides registration of all plumbing contractors and their employees, and inspections of all commercial and residential plumbing installations.

Staff also conducts plan reviews and inspections for all medical gas installations. Our department provides service to all areas of Franklin County except the City of Columbus and the City of Grove City.

SEPTIC & SEWAGE

The Water Quality Program monitors the proper treatment and disposal of all wastewater for household and small flow and semi-public sewage treatment systems in a manner which will protect surface and groundwater from contamination.

The Water Quality Program also reviews, inspects and regulates new sewage systems, replacement systems and sewage system alterations.

WATER QUALITY

The Water Quality Section is responsible for administering Chapter 3701-28 of the Ohio Administrative Code (private water system rules).

This program reviews and approves permits for the construction, alteration and abandonment of private water systems. A private water system is defined as a water supply system for the provision of water for human consumption, other than a public water supply system. This includes all water wells, cisterns, springs, ponds and hauled water storage tanks.

FOOD SAFETY

The Food Safety Program is primarily responsible to protect the community against foodborne illnesses resulting from health code violations and improper handling of food.

We're responsible for inspections of food service operations, food vending machines, mobile food operations, and food establishments. Schools, daycare centers, restaurants, and hospitals are just a few of the areas inspected on a regular basis by this section.

SUSTAINABILITY

Our sustainability Section includes our Lead and Healthy Homes programs, public health nuisance complaints, Solid Waste Facility inspections as well as climate change and sustainability efforts.

This section also completes Tobacco Free Workplace violation inspections, scrap tire enforcement, lead based paint clearances and works with partners across the region for climate related projects.
