Franklin County Public Health (FCPH) has been selected as one of eight national grantees by the Alzheimer’s Association and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) for the Healthy Brain Initiative (HBI) Road Map Strategists. The initiative will allow FCPH to enhance its capacity to address cognitive health and dementia for the citizens of Franklin County.
“People living with dementia and their family caregivers require support as cognitive, behavioral and physical functioning worsens over time,” said Joe Mazzola, Franklin County Health Commissioner. We are honored to be selected to develop a public health response to mitigate this impact.”
Through this initiative, FCPH will work in coordination with public health partners across the community to conduct a public health needs assessment, train local officials and key community partners, and lead implementation of public health action on dementia, consistent with the State and Local Public Health Partnerships to Address Dementia:, The 2018-2023 Road Map.

Just as with other chronic and degenerative conditions, public health can reduce risk in populations, further early detection and diagnosis, improve safety and quality of care for people living with cognitive impairment, and attend to caregivers’ health and well-being,” said Vince McGrail, Executive Director, Alzheimer’s Association Central Ohio chapter.
