Going Green – Jennie

Whether it’s four-leaf clovers, grass sprouting from the melting snow or the ability to get back outdoors, March is all about going green!

We were lucky to speak with our Sustainability Supervisor Jennie McAdams about public health, sustainability and more!

What makes you feel lucky about working in public health?

“Public Health is always growing and changing and I am lucky to be able to help our communities while being on the forefront of new ideas!”

What’s one moment you’ve had helping the community that’s been worth it’s weight in gold?

I have two! First, our partnership with the City to recycle old gas-powered lawn mowers and assist in cost de-fraying of new electric mowers was, I would say, worth its weight in metal!

Second, connecting with COSI to install an air quality monitor on their grounds where kids are able to see, learn and engage in health and sustainability was amazing!

What makes your job important in the context of public health?

“One of my roles is addressing climate and sustainability issues and this is important because environmental factors heavily impact a persons’ health and those who are more vulnerable tend to be more greatly impacted. By addressing climate and sustainability issues in the environment, we can improve the health of our community and work towards environmental justice!”

What do you want our communities to know about you, your team or public health?

“We have a lot of exciting projects coming up in the next few years and will be needing LOTS of community engagement and feedback, the communities are the focal point of our work!”

What’s a green practice that you follow in your life?

“I compost!  With all of the resources and ways to compost now it’s incredibly easy and also helps to tailor more of what I buy at the grocery store.”
