Infant Safe Sleep & Mortality

What We Do

If you have an infant(s) under the age of 1 in your home, trained FCPH staff provide infant safe sleep tips and guides for you and your family. Following the ABCs of safe sleep can help protect infants from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and other sleep-related causes of death.

How We Help

Trained FCPH staff can assist families by:

  • Explaining safe sleep tips and answer questions
  • Looking at a Safe Sleep Assessment with you and your family and provide education
  • Connect families to resources including a portable crib if they qualify

FCPH has created the Beautiful Beginnings program for pregnant or postpartum women that lasts until their infant turns 3 years old. Through this program you receive:

  • Personalized 1-on-1 support
  • Connection to community resources
  • Regular home visits, phone calls and/or text messages from your assigned Public Health Nurse or Community Health Worker
  • Open referrals to Beautiful Beginnings are now being accepted here

Safe Sleep means following the ABC’s (Alone, Back, Crib):

  • Baby is Alone in their own crib with no blankets, toys, pets or family members
  • Baby is placed on their Back on a firm, flat, level sleep surface
  • Baby is placed in a Crib for bedtime and naps. Other surfaces such as couches, adult beds, or armchairs are never safe for infants to sleep
