Franklin County Public Health will recognize International Overdose Awareness Day at the Recover for Life Overdose Awareness event, celebrating resilience and recovery in the community and raising awareness about harm reduction and overdose prevention.
This free public event will take place Wednesday, August 21 from 4 – 7:00 p.m. at the Prairie Township Community Center located at 5955 West Broad Street in Galloway.
Attendees will enjoy family-friendly activities, refreshments from a local food truck, a visit from the Prairie Township Fire Department and have access to free lifesaving resources including Narcan, fentanyl test strips and other support services. From 5:30 -6:00pm, participants will share inspirational stories about their lived experiences with addiction and recovery.
“We recognize International Overdose Awareness Day to highlight the strength and resilience of our community,” said Kristin Howard, Director of Communications and Public Affairs for Franklin County Public Health. “Recovery is a lifelong journey. We want to meet people where they are and ensure they have access to the resources and support they need to be successful on their path to recovery.”
FCPH will be joined by partners from around the community including, African American Male Wellness Agency, Comp Drug, Buckeye Ranch, Minerva Park Behavioral Health, Maryhaven, The Franklin County Coroner’s Office, RREACT, Franklin County Municipal Courts, Public Defender’s Office, Ohio State University, Basecamp, Safer Station, Franklin County Office on Aging and more!
In collaboration with the Columbus and Franklin County Addiction Plan, this event celebrates International Overdose Awareness Day as a time to raise awareness about substance use disorder, combat stigmatization, promote treatment, celebrate recovery, and strengthen our collective efforts to prevent overdose deaths.
