The Board of Health (the Board) consists of five members, four of which are appointed by the District Advisory Council for a five-year term. All members reside within the general Health District, may not hold an elected office, should be knowledgeable in the field of health and at least one member shall be a physician licensed to practice medicine within the state. The fifth member of the Board is appointed by the Franklin County Health District Licensing Council, must live in the general Health District and also serves a five-year term.
The Board meets at least once a month and may hold as many special meetings as it deems necessary. The Board meets on the second Tuesday of each month at Memorial Hall, 280 East Broad Street. Older Board Meetings
Jack R. Bope. Jr., resides in the City of Westerville; is past president of Central Ohio Gasoline Dealers Association; a former Advisory Board Member for Columbus State Community College; is self-employed; and has served on the Board of Health since 1987. Term expires in 2018.
Heather Lane, DVM, received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University in May 2014 and currently works at a local animal hospital. Dr. Lane is also working on a Master’s in Public Health- Veterinary Public Health degree at The Ohio State University. Dr. Lane is co-founder of Veteran Companion Animal Services, a nonprofit organization, and is also an active member of Therapy Dogs Incorporated. She was appointed to the Board in 2015. Term expires in 2020.
Jerry L. Lupfer, resides in Madison Township and has served as a Board Member since 2009. Jerry is the Executive Director of the Ohio State Firefighters Association, and is a member of the Central Ohio Fire Chief's Association and the Central Ohio Fire Prevention Association. He is the former Fire Chief of Hamilton Township and a former member of the State Fire Commission. Jerry also serves as a member of the Ohio Department of Health Advisory Board. Term expires in 2019.
Annemarie Sommer, M.D., resides in the City of Dublin; is a Pediatrician and Clinical Geneticist for Children's Hospital; is a Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University and has served on the Board of Health since 1985. Term expires in 2021.
Joseph P. Weaver, resides in Gahanna; is employed by MASI Laboratories; formerly worked for the Franklin County Board of Health for 27 years and retired as Director of Environmental Health Services; and has served on the Board since 2003. Appointed to the Board by the Health District Licensing Council. Term expires in 2017.
